Santa María - Machu Picchu (4 days)

First day

The probably most famous alternative for the Inca Trail is Santa Maria tour, which you start at 4'215 m. From there you go cycling down to 2'220 m through a tropical landscape. You will see ruins from the Incas and can ride on little legs of the Inca Trail where normally no tourists walk. You will also see beautiful waterfalls, natural Hot Springs and tropical fruits. After five hours downhill we will spend the night at 2'220 m.

Second day

Next day early in the morning we continue along the Vilcanota river where we reach San Pablo. From there we hike up to the prison of the Incas and can see beautiful and impressive waterfalls and archaeological sites. We visit the Hot Springs and spend then the night at the Prison.

Third day

Next day we reach the waterfalls of Mandor, we hike for about five hours through flat areas. We see the mountains San Miguel and Putucusi. During this day we can already see the ruins of Machu Picchu in distance. In Aguas Calientes we spend the last night.

Fourth day

Next day early in the morning we continue one and a half hour until Machu Picchu. We will have a guided tour there and have afterwards some time to walk alone through the ruins. Later on we go back down to Aguas Calientes where you can visit the Hot Springs and take the train back to Cuzco in the afternoon.
